Monolith Fuzz (now with added Absinthe!) * Posted here with The Good Captain's permission!
Ok, we've got a D*A*M forum member here, e-flat, and he's quietly managed to whip up some obnoxiously cool fuzz boxes without mentioning it too much on the board here out of respect to The Captain. He's also a member of my own forum, so of course, I was able to weasel out the goods from him, and goods they are.
Mr Monolith is building some *high* quality stomps. These boxes are built in the heavy duty Hammond enclosures with bitching parts throughout. The boxes themselves are powder coated personally by Mr Monolith. Attention to detail every is reminiscent of our Captain's golden standard. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but these boxes sound *fucking great*. These aren't intended so much for bedroom wankery so much as higher volume playing; they're carefully tuned to jam LOUD. Of the two I have, I'm not sure which I like better; they're both just outstanding. I think I have a small preference for the Oracle, which is a *hair* stronger in the fuzz depth department. They're not raunchy, over-the-top fuzzes, but highly musical with lots of room to spare for amp gain. Chords sound excellent, and they clean up gorgeously with your guitar's volume knob, as a good germanium fuzz should.
Mr Monolith can be reached at his myspace page, which also has some sound clips:

A great guy, very easy to talk to, very interested in user feedback. I've been pushing him hard to promote himself more, as I feel there's a lot of guitarists out there that would seriously groove on his work. Hopefully, if the stars are right, I might able to do his next pedal's case art!
Serious props to the endlessly cool David Main for allowing me to give my buddy a boost here on the DAM board. You've gotta have Good Karma falling off your brow like beads of gold.
Cheers, David!

They both looks nice, in and out !
from the sound clips .. both pedals have very bright fuzz.

Nice fuzzes! How is the Lucid? Im planning on picking some up when I run out of Absinthe Edouard.

Dunno, I have a deadly Canadian Absinthe homebrewer I use, but its always good to have another source.
Recommendations?

Drive down here already, than! Or just grab one from him; he's very reasonable with asking prices.

Sounds like an ideal fuzzpedal to tip an overdriving amp into total fuzzzz.

The Spectre especially. Its got a pre-fuzz knob which works so well(like an overdrive) alongside the fuzz control I suggested he add a second switch to toggle between the two.

Recommendations?I've only tried the stuff that I have. Lucid is made by the same guy, is legal in America, and is less than half the price.
Sickle- 08-04-2008
That 'Legal in America' stuff isn't the real deal. I'll have to turn you onto my guy in Canada, but I think he's having a love affair with brewing meads now.
Have to smack him around and get him back on track.

I'd like to check out the Candaian's stuff. Last year, I read that four different legit Absinthes were approved for sale in the US. Lucid was one of them. There are probably restrictions regarding thujone levels & alcohol content.
Sickle- 08-04-2008
There is(restrictions). They knock out enough of the thujone its technically not Absinthe anymore. The stuff my buddy made has so much of the crap in it you'll be shitting green for a year.
Tastes like one year-rotted horsepiss.
Totally awesome.

I've only tasted the fresh horsepiss so I guess that I'd be in for a bit of treat
On a more serious note I have lost a number of braincells (and probably friends) due to absinthe indulgences in my past

I can't afford this stuff at the moment, I have to many fuzzy needs to tend to, but what do you think about this stuff. It actually tastes great.

My bro drank some Absinthe in Prague while he was stationed in Germany. He says he took one shot, looked back across the dance floor, and there was a delay like staggered images one after the other. Result of him telling me this story: I have to try this shit! Let me know if there's any real absinthe in the US. It was illegal at one point I think, so if some is legal, I don't think it would be very real. Just my take anyway.

The stuff in Prague is brutal from what I've read. It is also spelled "Absinth" missing the "e". The stuff on the link I provided was reverse engineered by chemist Ted Breaux, from different pre-ban Absinthes, and is the real deal. Even though they are made in France, the thujone lvels are too high for legal retail sale in that country. The Absinthes are shipped to England, when no anti-absinthe laws were enacted. The package(s) that arrived at my door were labeled as containing "printed matter" 8)
