My 1st DAM pedal
Hi guys, I play guitar in a band called Flatlands, playing heavy, slow doom/contemporary metal. I've had my eye on DAM pedals (can't be bothered with the asterisks, sorry) after we played with Slomatics in Sheffield and their guitar sound was huge! I think Dave himself may have been at the show. Anyway, I saw a Dragonfly going for a song on another forum and picked it up for £60. I collected it to find it was in a large red enclosure instead of the newer MXR type, and popped the back open to put a battery in to find a load of Fu Manchu lyrics and a number 10. I've only played it for a bit but wow, amazing tone, it sounds like what's in my head when people say stoner/doom. And that was through a Smokey amp. It's getting blasted through the Matamp/Les Paul in the very near future. Full feedback once it's been played properly in a band setting, but it's good to be part of the DAM family. Gareth PS - blurry board shot.

Old school Fly for £60? Score! it sounds like what's in my head when people say stoner/doom. IIRC it's not even supposed to be Dave's best pedal for doom .. !

Thanks, nice to see you on here Skybone. I'm going to get hooked on DAM now, I know it. Why don't other companies make pedals this good?

Wow, didn't know that the Drag'n'Fly began as a wide enclosure  Too cool! Great score! Welcome Gareth! What an entrance! :D

Nice.. I wanted one for a while now.. £60? that is a good catch.

Hey Gareth, Nice score man!! :D I might be wrong but I believe Fly used to belong to Mr.Conan many many moons ago?!?! Are the Fu lyrics on the back plate from the tune Evil Eye?? ~Dave

GarethFlatlands- 02-04-2008

It used to belong to Kerrin someone (don't know his last name). And yeah, they're from Evil Eye. Should be able to blast it Wednesday!

Ran it cranked a few times now, wow. Great pedal. You can hear the original tone coming through but there's awesome fuzz over the top. It's inspired a new pedalboard layout. Fuzz, delay and reverb into the amps 'low' input for clean and fuzzed up FX and the RAT (modded with the Reutz mod) into the hot input of the amp for a more overdriven sound, swapping between the 2 with an A/B switch like the EH Switch Blade.

I would never have thought have that Gareth - i'll maybe see about getting a lend of an A/B pedal and see if it works for me, ta.

I'm just curious! :D But, you are right - amazing tone on the 'fly. I love mine, and it's on more than any other pedal I own. Take care!

Just found this forum while looking around, so sorry if I'm a bit late in replying to it. Anyway i saw your early Dragonfly and thought you might find this interesting. Bought this second hand at Cash Converters a couple of years back, for £28!!! (i kid you not).I tried to get info on it but the Drag'n'fly kept appearing, so i e-mailled David Main to find out about it. Mine is built in an Eddystone enclosure and according to him he only made 4 with this case..Whats more amazing he says 3 were painted green, and only 1 was red    I've seen early Dragonflys made with Hammond cases elsewhere on the net, but if yours is the Eddystone one, that's a hell of a rare pedal!!! Jammy jammy.........

Jammy jammy......... Welcome on board Dan. That's a mighty fine bargain from Cash Converters. In London they usually have a complete pile of junk in poor condition with used prices based on an unrealistic original retail price. The last bargain that I had from them was a valve WEM copycat for £25 and that was only because they didn't think that you could still get the tape loops !!

Axeman Dan- 08-06-2008

Cheers mate, you get a laugh a Crap Converters. I've seen a bolt neck Epiphone Les Paul in my local shop for £400 cos it had Gibson on the headstock!?! :? But they did sell me a Crest Audio Fuzz Face (a blue one) for £30! Ya got to love 'em, they do try.
