Pedal Bored No it isn't a spelling mistake.
Anyway, after a long time avoiding pedals of any form I'm gradually warming to the idea (probably due to buying a Meathead recently!). Basically I'm looking for some advice on 'must-have' pedals or what people would reccomend for a decent tone, or is it all just down to personal preferance?
By the way my set up is: Gibson LP Studio, Marshall DSL100 head a Marshall MG cab and a D*A*M Meathead.

That ones gonna come down to playing style and personal preference. Guys here could probably give you some recommendations if they knew what style you played.

Yeah sorry, I should have explained a little more.
I play what could be loosley be described as black metal (without all the cringeworthy moments and ridiculous clichés) often slowing down to doomy bits. I'm looking for a good full tone, I love being able to get lost in music, so a nice thick tone capable of adding to/heightening atmospheric stuff is what I'm after. Sorry if thats a little vague or just a load of waffle!

I am not an expert in that style in any sense, but what I do know is your well off with that meathead. I think you might want to focus on the amp situation a bit more. Maybe a Matamp? Don't know your financial situation, but that seems logical to me.

The meathead suits me down to the ground actually, I see your point about the amp, I've actually been meaning to look into matamps recently.
I think it's hard to put into words what kind of sound I want, it may be a case of trial and error I think, though that doesn't sound healthy for my wallet.

I'd say the Meathead Deluxe and maybe a Sonic Titan. The Deluxe will give you some additional bottom end that isn't available on the standard Meathead and the Titan will work great for overdriving your Marshall and adding some low frequency content along the way to "fullen" things up ;), and of course watch for oddball custom bits and bobs as they often lean towards the speciality market. Hope this helps.

Hey Decy, I'd say you're on the right lines with using a fuzz box. I'm not a huge black metal fan by any stretch of the mark but the stuff I do listen too I do hear more fuzzy tones or mid humped drive tones than the more modern kinda "metal" crunch fest thing. A good reverb if you amp already don't have it would be a first to get hold of if you amp don't have it....maybe a booster of some kind for added texture here and there....more distortion could also work well for that.
+1 on the Matamp idea!

I'd save up for a decent cab that does justice to the rest of your gear first... Tip: Marshall 800 cabs with G12-65s (NOT '75Ts) in it. Cheap & awesome.
Then get a Titan!

For a bit less $$$ than the Mats, an old Sunn with a 2x15 and some good fuzz can get you some GREAT tones.

Thanks for all the advice, as for finding old Sunn heads, would that just be a case of scouring ebay? Or does anyone know anywhere I'd find a good deal?

Will do. I've seen a lot of Sovtek heads on ebay lately too, are they any use? I've heard good things...

Well we're gradually working in more and more slower doomier parts. If you'll pardon my shameless plugging, you can hear an old song here :
www.myspace.com/sioraigeimhreadh things have changed considerably sound-wise since then (due, in no small part to my growing D*A*M obsession!)
Anyway, back on topic, I'll look into Sonic Titans, and am continuing the search on eBay for a different head, but I'm happy enough with the one I have for now anyway.
