Possible Sale of Gibson SG-3 Fireburst
I’m thinking about selling my Gibson Sg-3 Fireburst. The guitar is limited to 400 worldwide and was Gibson’s ‘guitar of the week’ 21 in 2007. Basically, it’s an Sg with Single coil pickups, and it sounds awesome (The body is also routed for 3 humbuckers so changing pickup type would only require a new scratchplate). It’s a lovely playing guitar and the finish is beautiful. The shop I brought it from actually had 3 and I picked the best one. Here’s more detail: The SG-3 guitar pushes the power sustain and tonal range of Gibson's legendary SG into new sonic dimensions. The Gibson SG3 Fireburst Electric Guitar goes where no SG has gone before. With three single-coil pickups and a jaw-droppingly beautiful Fireburst finish the SG-3 is equipped with a 6-way chicken-head pickup switch. Rotary selector offers six pickup settings: bridge neck middle middle/bridge middle/neck and neck/bridge. Combining unrivaled playability with an extraordinary spectrum of sweet yet scorching humbucker tones the SG-3 is the perfect guitar for rock metal and blues guitarists. Gibson SG-3 Fireburst Electric Guitar Features: • BODY • Body Species: Mahogany NECK • Species: Mahogany • Profile: SG • Neck Joint Location: 19 FINGERBOARD • Species: Rosewood • Scale Length: 24-3/4" • Number of Frets: 22 • Nut Width: 1.695" • Inlays: Dot • Fingerboard Binding: Antique HARDWARE • Plating Finish: Chrome • Tailpiece: Stopbar • Bridge: Tune-o-matic • Knobs: Black Top Hat with chrome inserts • Tuners: Green key ELECTRONICS • 3 single-coil pickups • Controls: 1 volume 1 tone 6-way chicken head OTHER • Strings: Brite Wires .010-.046 The guitar has had very light use and would be as new apart from some light buckle scratches on the back. Also includes a quality Ritter bag. I’m hoping to get £450 for it. Pm me if you’re interested.

Nice guitar!! Is it possible to get a scratchplate for three HB?

kristo- 08-01-2008

Yeah, both wdmusic.co.uk and auroraproject.co.uk make custom scratchplates. just send them a tracing and what you want and they'll make it. I think auroraproject is the cheaper of the two.

Is a pickguard different from a scratchplate or do English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh have a different name for everything?

Is a pickguard different from a scratchplate or do English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh have a different name for everything? :D Same thing, perhaps you could distract yourself from studying the history of the blues to expain how something so simple has 2 names, and while you're there, there's plectrum/pick, tubes/valves.............

mhat- 08-01-2008

plectrum/pick, tubes/valves............. Let's call the whole thing off ! ..... I'll get me coat. Mike

Is it routed for three humbuckers? Changing a pickguard is no issue, but chopping off half the wood is...

kristo- 08-01-2008

terrible! yeah, its routed for 3.

Damn! I remember when these came out. Best Guitar of the week they did. Such a great balance of Fender & Gibson characteristics & the burst is so fine looking. Don't sell! You'll regret it. EDIT - Maybe I should say "don't sell until I've managed to save a few hunderd quid" :)

Is a pickguard different from a scratchplate or do English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh have a different name for everything? At least 2. I believe the Welsh for Guitar is Llwyddiffysgolpwgh & Fuzzboxes are called Prifuzzysgol. I tried to learn Welsh... briefly.... & failed. It's one of the oldest languages still in use today.

I've got to let it go, I'm taking financial hits all over the place, and I still haven't paid off my credit card!!! I've even resorted to leaving it in the bag so I don't get too attached.

Lovely guitar - but they're only £469 brand new, you may want to reconsider your asking price.

kristo- 08-07-2008

Yeah, they were that new, but you can't get them anymore and mines hardly used. Plus, i did say i was hoping to get £450.
