Not sure if RAH is same as RFH, i think they're different, but possibly related...
you played at RAH?

Yeah... ten years ago I played a few shows there. We opened for Nick Cave and the bad seeds. And what's his name... the guy who originally wrote "hey joe" also played.
Seems like a lifetime ago...

i have had a pro analog MK2 and didn't like it !
it was very treblyand stiff compared to my original 69' pcb marshall supafuzz (which is usualy darker than the mk2) and recent TB mk2 ri i rebuilt to original specs with nos caps and transistors.
it was also having an over the top type of fuzz tone that was stronger than those two other pedals not as easy to use.
i din't like it but i think i would prefer the D*A*M as they seem to be more faithfull to the original ones although i haven't tried one yet !
saying the Pro analog sounds more modern is a polite way to say it doesn't sound like an original ! LOL
but i heard some PA pedals that sounded ok.
the Dual drive is a good overdrive and the fuzz face (scary face, discontinued from what i know ) was sounding interesting, at least the one i had cause it seems his pedals are not really consistent from one to another !
i heard several people saying about that and i'm not quiet surprised as depending on its stock, you won't find the same components from one to the other ; knowing he seems to have used several brands of transistors and possibly other components as well
the top boost (discontinued as well i believe) wasn't bad but a bit stiff as well.
also, even if you agree with him and pay for some specific transistors, you never know what will be the ones in your pedals !
quiet annoying , isn't it ?
the pro mk2 was the Pro Analog pedal i liked the least of all.

I tried the Pro Analog MKII recently. I found it has a balanced, very agressive tone. I think balanced is the key word. What I love about vintage fuzz tones and the best clones are the quriky, unbalanced sounds they produce. For balanced agressive tones, nothing suits me better than an overdriven tube amp, possibly spiked with a booster of some sort.

I talked to a guy who seems to have owned and played every fuzz ever at some point in time, including a buzzaround. He is an expert in Sola Sound stuff, even talking to Dave in Dave's early days. He said that the only brand that gets the original mkII sound exactly as it is in the vintage pedals is D*A*M. Enough said.

I was making a general statement, mainly because I'm very happy with my Analogman Sun Lion (Rangemaster & Fuzz Face clone). The DAM counterparts (Red Rooster & Drag 'N' Fly) are based on, but not clones of the originals. Both of which are great! I'll most likely jump on the Fly list when it opens.

from what i've seen /read and the samples i've heard about the D*A*M , they might be the closest clones i've heard about but who knows, there are so many people doing clones out there now !
one thing that is sure is that most of the guys that call their pedals reissues, think they are so much smarter than the guys who built the original ones , so they think they can build something better where they put their so called "genius" in there and most of them finaly produce some sterile stomp boxes that really sound much less good than the original ones.
in one word : Tasteless !

Very true, I've listened to a lot of pedals, mostly sound samples & nothing grabbed my attention the way the DAM MKII did. I'm now on the list & waiting for one, but managed to score a 1966. I'm finding a kind of perfection with the '66 & am almost fearing the MKII. Am I capable of handling all that fuzz? At the same time, I can't wait to find out!
electricsky- 04-17-2008
if ever you don't feel like you can handle two good fuzz boxes, just send me one, i will sacrifice myself for you ! LOL
i think you made a good choice, they should be both nice depending on the amps you use !
Cado- 04-17-2008
Thanks for offering to help, but I think I'll be OK. :D I was really trying to say that the '66 is performing well beyond my expectations. So far I've heard it through 5 different amps, and it sounds great through 4 of them. Also, different pickups aren't a problem, P90s sound incredible! Got really close to "She Said, She Said." With humbuckers, I got very close to "Beck's Bolero." So where's the MKII going to take me? 8)

I used to think that the MKII was going to just kill my 1966 that I had, and just sold due to money problems. The DAM MKII seems more balanced than my 1966 did so maybe that's just the nature of the MKII circuit. The tone knob on mine is really cool, but I keep it dam near full tilt all the time so I don't think people with the standard version are missing out on much there. I'm hoping the fuzzaround will help me forget about my 1966 some more till I get another one after the summer.

Thanks Brian, Cubba was nice enough to let me borrow his MKII a while back; but I only played it at bedroom volume. I was able to play the '66 at a high volume in a few situations. Generally, I find that I don't need as much distortion at higher volumes & that's where my "fear" is coming from. I'm just anticipating the danger of the whole thing. It could be great or it could be a disaster & it will be happening in front of an audience.

Sort of off topic.....Does anybody now how to purchase a ProAnalog MKII? I was looking at the website but couldn't find any info on how to order and when I tried to send an email it was returned. Any help would be appreciated (I think I'm starting to get an uncontrollable fuzz obsession and want to try them all).

I only just grabbed one of scottys mk3 model off ebay (the parks in my avatar are mk3's) but they do come up ocassionally - Music Toys had one in stock in that brown billy gibbons boot finish - may still be there - mk3 rather than 2 but same ballpark - you really should wait for a DAM mk2 Dave may well have room on his la-*test*-('") "second" list which I am also waiting on - should be six weeks or so ( you have been properly advised!! ) Cheers - G

Thanks for the advice Graham, I'll check out those places and see if anything comes along. I am on the waitlist for the DAM MKII :P, just wanted to get something to tied me over until I get my hands on it......I'm currently stuck in the digital modeling world and am working on building an analog collection so to me, everything looks like candy
