Resto Work Ok, I got a Maestro FZ-1S in the mail today that needs a bit of TLC.
I can send this off to one of my pedal-making buddies, or I can handle the job myself like I know I can and should.
So...
What would you guys recommend for cleaning the grime off the enclosure and using to eliminate the scratch from the pots and switch?
I have some Peavey spray cleaner shit that's supposed to fix scratchy pots and leave some kind of residue protectant, but I've only used it on relatively modern potentiometers. I really don't want to mess this thing up; its in pretty nice shape.
Same kinda stuff as the Peavey crap I've got.
I cleaned the outside with a very watered down Simple Green solution.
There's a problem with this box's output volume I really hope I can get sorted..

Hrmm..Scratchy pots aside(and a really loud pop when engaging the footswitch), the pedal sounds great, output is A-ok!

I don't know this circuit, but switch popping can usually be eliminated by a large (1M +) resistor from the input to ground - before C1 on the schematic - between the input + ground lugs of the input jack should do it.

The pulldown resistor the Simon mentioned should cure the popping.
GREAT photos...interesting that your unit is a slightly later version than the schematic inside...

Thanks for advice on the popping; man, I would hate to hear that kinda shit on a 50 watt amp cranked past 5 or even 3, ouch!
Thanks, I had to threaten my camera with a smashing to scare it into working properly.
Oof, you aren't saying that..
Ok, what are you saying, exactly? I'm not going to assume.
Is there a version that came out after the FZ-1S? I thought that was the last one.
Cheers,
D

It's still a FZ-1S. Yours has, at the very least, a completely different set of transistors than the specs / schematic call for. Yours is a 2n5088 / 2n5133 combo. VERY nice example ...should sound great ...possibly better than the BC109 version (in the schemo)
I don't have the "trace side" photo to compare the whole schematic to see if there are other significant changes. I can see that your's has two .05uf capacitors for instance, when the schematic calls for one. The resistor values look to match up (at a quick glance).
Anyway, BEAUTIFUL pedal. Truly.
If you like looking at "gut shots", go HERE to my gallery and have a look around !

Man - I love your archive DnF - I just lost an hour on fuzz alone

thanks....
I'm working on a few more "agreements" to post large archives of gut shots in my gallery.

A couple more close-ups. Here's a shot of my totally banged up LRE Fuzz; not much going on with this board!
More of the FZ-1S:

Oopzz, that last one doesn't come in a pedal..

I'd love to see more shots of that LRE...front and back of board, wire connections, etc...I enjoy tracing out effects....

I'll try and get some more, but its one of those with the inverted boards, so seeing the components.

Here's an ailing FZ-1A I picked up a couple weeks ago. The guy wasn't sure what was wrong with it and I grabbed it hoping it just needed a new battery < >. Anyways, I'm looking for a hired gun to nail the problem here; audio goes through when pedal is deactivated, but no workie when on. I'll take some better snaps from work with a better camera.
