Ring Moduators
I'm not very knowlegeable about this effect. I was thinking I would like to find one that could be blended well with a fuzz pedal. Something that could be dialed down to a more subtle ring mod effect. Maybe I need an effect thats not just straight ahead ring mod. Any suggestions? Thanks...

An octave fuzz, like an Octavia, though not identical to a ring modulator, can produce tones similar to ring modulation (e.g. metal vibrating against metal, a clanging sound), especially when playing double stops (sounding two notes at once), and the sound is simultaneously fuzzy. For example, I do this with the octave effect on my FoxRox Captian Coconut 2. I know that Dave Fox also makes the Octron, a stand alone octave fuzz, though I have not tried it. However, I bet it is not dissimilar to the one he put in the Captain Coconut 2. Would you describe in more detail the type of sound are you gunning for with ring modulation and fuzz?

I've got one of these bad boys on the way for my bass, should be arriving next week. It's a Subdecay Noise Box. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cdmqf0plnI&feature=related Not sure how you'd describe it, maybe somewhere along the lines of a harmonic generator, ring modulator, envelope filter fuzzy thingymebob :) I can let you know how it sounds when it arrives if you like? Apparantley it interacts well with fuzz pedals if you put it before them in your chain.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I kind of got the urge to try this from listening to this sample of the Death by Audio Harmonic Transformer http://skywave.hostcentric.com/deathbyaudio/sounds/soloht.mp3 I like the sound of it in the clip (I'd be using this effect for lead playing mostly). This pedal I assume is a combo of ring mod and fuzz. I'd like to kind of create my own thing using a big muff or another fuzz box I like and adding the modulation effect (or something along that line) to it. Yes please let me know how the noise box sounds, it seems like it would be way fun to play around with. From the demo it might be a little too over the top for what I'm thinking of, but then again I might really like it. You never can quite tell from one sound clip.

If you get a chance to try out a Lovetone Ring Stinger then give it a whirl. Not always easy to predict what it will do but a lovely octave fuzz and ring modulator. Plus it's bright pink ! Who could resist that  There's a good demo from blondegraemey at :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0n0UTunK5Y&feature=related
