Russian Big Muff.
i just bought the re-issue russian big muff, and i want to get some stuff done to it, e.g. - put metal jack in/outs (to replace the crappy plastic ones) and if possible swap the in/out around as they're the 'wrong' way around, change the pots (as they're pretty scratchy), maybe this is also cause of the wiring (maybe re-wire it)? and possibly change the resistors with metal-film resistors (1% tolerance) and all the caps with high-quality film caps? how much would this cost to get done?

If you can do the work yourself, maybe £25 ish for the bits (off the top of my head). If its a black russian muff change the switch the originals are total dung.

Hi if the pots are mounted direct to the pcb, then things are more difficult - not familiar with the numerous muff variants, but if they aren't and the jack sockets alone are holding the pcb, it's easy to reverse the sockets, by turning the board over. But in this instance, there's a problem replaciing the sockets if they are on the pcb - meaning, you can change them them to metal ones easy enough by running wires from the board, but then there's nothing holding the pcb in place. FWIW I don't think it's worth fretting over the quality of the caps and resistors at all, but yeah, I'd go along with welshchris re the switch, btut the reissue might already have a decent one. re the pots - if it's new they should be ok - probably just need a clean - spray contact cleaner inside and turn them a few times - should do the trick. see also here: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/archive/index.php/t-1625641.html http://www.voxblues.com/guitar/muff/ With the step by step instructions on the voxblues site, you could probably do this yourself as long as you learn to solder properly first - it's easy, but not as easy as it looks. Just take it slow. Re-housing pedals is a good way into DIY!
