Should I true bypass?
Just got a Kimbara FY-2 and I'm wondering whether I should change the switch to a true bypass one. Also, thinking of whether to do it to a real vintage Rat. Will it affect the tone of the pedals?

FY-2...the two knob cheese wedge thing?? I think there are already true bypass???....the one I had was. All Rats have true bypass switching accept the Brat and the Road Kill. ~Dave

Thanks for that - yer not wrong. Just opened the FY-2 up and it's TB. Really pleased to hear that about the Rat too. I didn't want to alter it for fear of doing damage.

Just one more thing about my FY-2......... I know that there's a bit of a volume drop when you stomp on these pedals but should the Fuzz knob do much? The vol knob seems to work as it should but there is very little sound adjustment from the fuzz. When you turn it from full on down to minimum the sound just becomes a little duller/ less bright. Is this as it should be?

Yeah  The Fuzz knob doesn't do a great deal at best. It does vary a little on what you run into it and/or what you run into but it's certainly not the most flexible control you'll come across. For me the FY-2 is so damn awful that its just gotta be good! Playing through one is like playing pong on an Atari. ~Dave

Many thanks Dave. What's going on with you tonight - is it a 24 hour fuzz surgery night?

Ha-ha! :D Just on catch up, doing the parts ordering and other such computer based happenings.

I have another question about this pedal......... I have noticed that if I pull the output jack a few of mm out of the socket then the fuzz sounds amazing when my amp is on full gain - sort of more like a superfuzz. However, when pedal is off I lose some brightness on the clean sound. Anyone know how I'd be able to get the best of both worlds? Obviously I could go use a bypass pedal but I'd rather not do that with pedalboard space being at a premium and all.

Hey DF, Do you mean the FY-2 Sounds better when you pull out the output socket plug on the pedal??!

Hey DF, Do you mean the FY-2 Sounds better when you pull out the output socket plug on the pedal??! That's exactly what I mean. It's a bit of a weird one - it does sound better when my OTR is on full gain and there is no volume drop when it is switched on. Unfortunately when it is turned on and off it cuts out for half a second or so. I reckon if I do want to use it in this way it will have to be via an additional TB pedal.
